Coconut Flour Chaffles — Bread Swap 2.0
A Wheat-Free, Grain-Free Alternative to Traditional Bread
Our original chaffle recipe quickly became one of our favorite alternatives to traditional bread. Whether we're making sandwiches, burgers, or looking for something to serve alongside a meal, chaffles have become a staple in our kitchen.
But we wanted to try something different!
Almond flour can be relatively high in oxalates, so Brenda decided to experiment with coconut flour as an alternative for people interested in reducing their dietary oxalate intake.
And that's how Bread Swap 2.0 was born!
The best part? We only changed one ingredient in our original recipe. Instead of ½ cup of almond flour, we used just 2 tablespoons of coconut flour.
These savory chaffles are made without wheat or grains and offer another delicious way to enjoy familiar foods.
Ingredients
Makes approximately 12 chaffles
2 tablespoons coconut flour
6 large eggs
2 cups shredded mozzarella and Asiago cheese
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
1. Preheat your waffle maker.
Allow your waffle maker to heat completely before adding the batter.
2. Beat the eggs.
Crack the eggs into a mixing bowl and beat until well combined.
3. Add the remaining ingredients.
Add the coconut flour, shredded cheeses, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and Italian seasoning.
Mix thoroughly until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
4. Cook the chaffles.
Spoon an appropriate amount of batter into your preheated waffle maker.
Close the lid and cook until the chaffles are golden brown and firm enough to remove.
Cooking time will depend on your waffle maker.
5. Serve and enjoy!
Remove the chaffles carefully and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
Use them as a replacement for traditional bread with your favorite meals!

Why Coconut Flour?
Our original chaffle recipe uses almond flour, which can be relatively high in oxalates.
For people who are trying to reduce dietary oxalates, coconut flour may offer an alternative worth considering.
Because coconut flour absorbs considerably more liquid than almond flour, we used only 2 tablespoons of coconut flour in place of the original ½ cup of almond flour.
Keep in mind that the oxalate content of the finished chaffles depends on all the ingredients and serving sizes. We haven't measured the oxalate content of this recipe, so we're not labeling it as a verified low-oxalate food.
